TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, who was on an indefinite fast here since five days to protest against the Centre’s decision on Telangana, was shifted to a hospital on Friday.
While the police personnel were trying to shift him, the TDP supporters tried to block their way by forming a ring around Naidu.
Though Naidu started his fast on a high-profile note, the event started losing steam following poor response.
This prompted the TDP camp to make frantic calls to leaders of various political parties.
Even senior CPM and CPI leaders were contacted.
Sources said TDP leaders contacted CPM’s Prakash Karat, Sitaram Yechury and CPI’s Sudhakara Reddy, AB Bardhan and D Raja.
A Left leader, it is learnt, asked one of the emissaries why Naidu shared a platform with Narendra Modi recently at a Delhi function.
The TDP emissary tried to underplay the event by saying Naidu “was only fulfilling a prior commitment”.
But both the Left parties turned down the request to lend political weight to Naidu’s stage.
