Recent times in Tollywood have witnessed a series of successful comebacks by yesteryear actresses. Be it Madhubala, Roja, Ramya Krishna, Nadiya or Rohini, these actresses are now bagging meaty roles albeit as the mother of the hero or heroine, which have proved to be instrumental in the success of the movie. Actress Roja quit films in favor of a career in politics. Subsequently she has come back to movies and acted in character roles in Golimaar, Mogudu and the recently released D/O Varma. Nadiya who acted as heroine in some movies in the 80’s such as Bazaaru Rowdy made a comeback in Telugu with Mirchi in which she played the mother of Prabhas
She followed it up with the role of Pawan Kalyan’s aunt in Attarintiki Daredi. Both the movies turned out to be blockbusters. Rohini, wife of late actor Raghuvaran played Nani’s mother in the hit flick Ala Modalaindi and the mother of Sumanth Ashwin in Antaka Mundu Aa Taravata (AMAT). Madhubala who became a household name in Tollywood courtesy of Roja and Gentleman, made a successful comeback with AMAT playing the role of mother of heroine, Eesha. Ramya Krishna has been regularly seen in character roles after her marriage and is currently playing a pivotal role in Baahubali. These actresses have made successful comebacks and are slowly stepping into the void created by actresses like Sujatha and Sharada. “We act because it is the only thing we know.

we are passionate about movies and welcome good roles which give us satisfaction,” said actress Rohini. Echoing her view, director Mohan Krishna Indraganti says, “As they are professionals, they can do a much better job and the results show on screen. Audience is also better able to connect with them as they are familiar faces.”
